Assignments 1-3
To calculate Mary’s level we will start two grades below her
current grade. The examiner began with grade one level and she read the word
list with ease with 18/18 correct. From there the examiner moved on to level
two which proved to be the correct level for Mary. When Mary was asked to read
level 3 she was clearly frustrated and continued with level 2.
Part 1 Assessment of Prior Knowledge
Mary answered one out of three questions on the basic level
Score 1/12
Part 2 Oral Reading Miscue Analysis
Mary had 9 errors out of 198 words which proves she’s on
grade level with 3 self corrections.
Score 46 WPM – WCPM – 44
Part 3 Assessment of Comprehension through unaided recall
Mary was able to recall and comprehend what she read. She was
able to retell the main idea with few details.
Part 4 Strengths and Needs
Mary reads nicely and smoothly at level two with little to
no frustration. Mary can use some extra help with prior knowledge and recall of
details. She can use instruction to help her with suffixes and prefixes as well
as other grammatical rules. In conclusion Mary needs to continue reading level
two until she is fluent enough to reach level 3
